Is your portrait session coming up? Are you unsure of what to bring? We get it! You’re already nervous about looking your best and are making an effort not to look goofy while posing for your photos, so do you really need to worry about bringing additional items to your session? While Mike and I will most likely provide you with the essential items needed for your photoshoot to run smoothly, it’s never a bad idea to bring a couple of additional items to your session. If it’ll make you more comfortable and confident, why not? In today’s blog, we came up with a list of things you should bring to your portrait session!
Items to Bring To Ensure You Look Your Best:
1. A Mirror
It’s always helpful having a pocket-sized mirror with you so that you can check your hair and makeup periodically during the shoot. While I will be there to fix up stray hairs and paint out any little details, it’s nice to give yourself a beauty check whenever you get a chance!
2. Makeup
Ladies AND guys, a little foundation can go a long way for your photoshoot session! It’ll help prevent shiny faces and such! If you’re planning on wearing makeup, we recommend bringing in the items you applied for touch-ups during the session. You’ll be grateful you bright them, especially if it gets hot out or you take a food/coffee break! By the way, if you don’t know of a good place to get your hair and makeup done, don’t fret! Mike and I know amazing professionals and are happy to connect you!
3. Towel/Tissues
Towels can be super helpful for any circumstance. Whether it be you’re inclined to sweat easily, or you need to clean something up, it’s a good thing to carry around!
4. Chapstick
If it gets windy or cold outside, you’re not going to want to take your photos with your chapped, dry lips!
5. Comb/Brush
Carrying a comb/brush with you is always handy—especially if you’re planning to take your portrait session outdoors. The wind may come to be your biggest enemy! Sometimes, fingers just don’t cut it! When it comes to detangling and maintaining the look of your hair, a brush will really help keep your hair in control!
6. Hair Spray
As we previously mentioned, your hair sometimes has a mind of its own, and sometimes the only thing that can keep it in place is hair spray! If you don’t usually use hairspray, we recommend testing it out before your session—the day of your portrait is not the day to experiment!
7. Hair Ties
If you want a quick and easy way to change your look throughout your photo session by modifying your long hair, you should consider bringing hair ties! It’s a quick way to go from casual to formal in just seconds!
Items to Keep You Happy During Your Portrait Session:
11. Snacks
Seriously, a small snack can do wonders for your mood and energy! But we recommend staying away from snacks that drip or can cause a mess! You wouldn’t want your clothes to get stained for the photoshoot!
12. Water
Stay hydrated! Bring water and keep yourself fresh! Staying hydrated will give you energy and keep you relaxed as well. If the weather is cold, don’t be afraid to bring warm drinks such as coffee, hot chocolate, or tea!
13. Comfy Shoes
You can save those dazzling yet painful heels for when you’re shooting! In the meantime, come in comfortable shoes! If your portrait session requires a lot of walking, you’ll be grateful you did!
Other Items You Can Bring to You Portrait Session
14. Props
Props are great to help better convey your personality! They can be clothing accessories or items that help tell your story. For example, if you play a musical instrument, bring it over! If your hobby is skateboarding, bring that too! Whatever item that’ll help convey the true you is always welcome!
