How to Hire a Professional Wedding Photographer?

It is your once in a lifetime event, your BEST. DAY. EVER. Of course you would like to hire a professional. Before hiring a professional wedding photographer, however, there are a lot of things to keep in mind and think about.

Here are a few things to consider.

We live in the media-driven world powered by advanced technology. Anyone can take a photo and post it online in seconds. But does that make everyone a photographer? No.

There are special events that only happen once a year or once EVER.  There are also going to be occasions when you will need photos for your business profession and for your company. In all of those cases, you want to make sure to hire a photographer who will produce high-quality work and is a pleasure to work with. Many call themselves professional photographers, and it is essential to be able to identify who is and who is not, which makes the task of hiring a professional photographer a little bit complicated.

Portfolio

Make sure you can look at their previous work. Examine their photos, look for a specific style, and techniques. It’s not unheard of that photographers have multiple portfolios individually designed to represent different specialties. Looking at their collections, you will notice how they connect with the subject, how professional their finished product is, and what quality they can provide.

Style

Once you have examined and explored the photographer’s portfolio, you will have a pretty good idea about their style. Style is considered a fundamental factor when choosing a photographer.

If you are looking for a fashion-photography coverage of your next runway or event, you will have to choose a photographer that is able to capture the style you are looking for. If you select a photographer who is not familiar with event photography, you will not get anything close to what you want. A critical factor here is to understand that different styles require specific methods, experiences, equipment, and training. Would you hire a car mechanic to fix your HVAC system?

In photography, the same analogy applies. A portrait photographer knows precisely how to position the lighting to highlight your best self. An architectural photographer may have the right technique for buildings, structures and spaces, but may not have a good sense of what makes a great portrait.

It doesn’t mean that a portrait photographer won’t be able to photograph a building and the same thing goes for an architectural photographer. In many cases, photographers master multiple specialties and it is something that you will notice in their portfolio.

Budget

This item should have been number one on the list! Photographers have a different range as far as pricing goes, some are high, and some are low. When coming up with the estimate photographers take a few things into consideration.

  • What is being photographed and how long it is going to take.
  • What equipment is required?
  • The team needed to finish the project.
  • The types of finished products expected.

It does not matter if it is one professional headshot or a fashion catalog that needs days spent at the location with a full team. The budget is crucial and needs a reasonable amount of time to be put together to make sure that it is fair for all the parties involved.

Equipment

As a customer, it is not essential to know what equipment is being used. But it is critical to understand that the technology and equipment the photographer uses are up to date and adequate for the type of project you want.

It is also interesting to know that the amount of money invested in equipment is not relevant. A professional photographer with proper training and skills will be able to deliver the desired result with both low and high-cost equipment.

When you find yourself looking for a professional photographer, be sure to communicate the details of your project. Who and what is being photographed, where the photo shoot will take place, the expected outcome of the images as well as the purpose of images. With this information, your photographer will be able to plan accordingly and deliver the best results.
